Breakthrough in Spintronics: Generating Spin Currents in 2 Femtoseconds

Researchers have achieved a significant breakthrough in spintronics, generating spin currents in just 2 femtoseconds using ultrafast laser pulses. This advance in manipulating electron spin states could lead to faster, more energy-efficient data storage technologies. The study introduces a novel mechanism, optical intersite spin transfer (OISTR), to manipulate spins with light, offering a new path for developing next-gen spintronic devices. Future research aims to further improve spin current production and apply it to practical devices.
